Exercise 110 Improving Peripheral Vision Awareness

The parafovea is an area that surrounds the fovea and can take in much more. The parafoveal cells are connected to other areas of the brain that govern reflexive or instinctive responses. To illustrate this, have a partner hold a dollar bill by its end with his thumb and forefinger. Place your thumb and forefinger in about the middle of the dollar bill in an open, ready position. When your friend lets the dollar bill go without warning, close your thumb and forefinger upon it as quickly as possible. Was it too fast for you Now do the same experiment, but this time don't look at the dollar bill with your focal vision. Look at it by projecting your conscious awareness into your peripheral vision. Did you catch it this time Were your reflexes better Choose another point in the room and again fixate your gaze toward a certain spot and hold it there. Identify the furniture, various objects large and small, and the different colors that are surrounding your focal point. How did you do...

Exercise 111 Using Your Peripheral Vision

Under red light, focal vision is sharp and clear, but peripheral vision is poor. Under blue light, peripheral vision is better and focal vision is blurred. Perhaps this can explain why magicians claim to see certain blue-tinted nail polish marks on the backs of cards with their peripheral vision, but can't see the same marks with their focal vision. If 2 simultaneously flashing lights are shown, the one viewed with your focal vision will appear to flash ahead of the one you view with your peripheral vision. This is because the foveal cells are connected to the cerebral cortex (the conscious thinking area), and the parafoveal cells of your peripheral vision lead to your reflex brain areas. Certain sports like football, basketball and hockey require acute peripheral vision for superior performance (passing the ball, avoiding on rushers, etc.). Baseball and tennis players keep their focal vision on the ball as they use their peripheral vision and kinesthetic awareness to guide the bat or...

Physical Aspects Of Aging

The single most important thing you can do for your eyesight is to get an eye exam every one to two years. If you are a visual learner, sight is your primary mechanism for gathering information. Inaccuracies in judgments may be the result of erroneously perceived information. It is imperative that you have regular eye exams. Not only do you need someone to prescribe the proper corrective lenses, but early detection of diseases such as glaucoma and macular degeneration is essential to reduce damage. The lens of the eye begins to stiffen in middle childhood, and we begin to focus less precisely. The decline is gradual and may not be noticed until the mid-thirties or mid-forties. For some people, this condition is corrected by glasses, contact lenses, or laser surgery. For declines in near- and far-sighted vision, glasses or contacts are compensation mechanisms. If you have progressed to bifocal prescriptions, you might consider monovision. This is a technique where a person wears two...

Obstacles to Optimal Communication

Some people are inhibited by a limited vocabulary and have difficulty conveying their ideas. Others are handicapped by physiological impediments such as poor eyesight or deficient hearing. Many are overwhelmed with psychological challenges. Emotional burnout or a stress-related disease can distort your perception and interpretation of events. Most people have difficulty dealing with mixed messages of a verbal nature. They are even more baffled by incongruous nonverbal and verbal messages. When we exhibit nonverbal messages such as slumping, preoccupation with something else, or refraining from eye contact, we erect barriers to Optimal communication. Our actions speak louder than our words.

You Are What You Think You

Repeat the previous day's exercises (including the Center of Creation and eye exercises). Work on getting past the feeling of frustration while reading visually. Be gentle with yourself. Remember that this is a new process to your psyche. Give it a little empathy and continue to do your eye exercises and breathing. Just have some fun with this. Continue this day's practice until you overcome the frustration. Take as many days to practice as the participants need.

Random Dot Stereogram

Allow your eyes to space out and gaze through the paper. You may watch the two dots at the top of the page become four. Each eye sees two dots independently. Overlap the two dots in the center so that you see three dots. When the two central dots fuse into one, just relax and hold your gaze steady, while observing the rest of the image in your peripheral vision. Hold the fused dots and glance slowly around the page. When you hold the patterns, your brain will develop the 3-D image.

Exercise 116 Aura Seeing

To see an aura, you need to increase the sensitivity of your eyes and extend the range of perceived vibration beyond the visible light. Part of improving your auric sight is improving your peripheral vision, so master both Exercise -- Improving Your Peripheral Vision Awareness and Exercise -- Using Your Peripheral Vision before attempting to do the following exercise. To train your eyes to see the auric rainbow in the ultraviolet area of the spectrum, an exaggerated stimulation of the rods and cones of your parafovea (the retinal cells of your peripheral vision) can be achieved with blue and red filters. By looking at the sky for several minutes through a dicyanin (blue) filter, your peripheral vision is sensitized to the shorter wavelengths of blue and violet, and the longer red and orange wavelengths are eliminated. Looking through red goggles accustoms your sight to night vision and dim light. A red filter permits the cones of the eyes (primarily in the fovea) to function, but...

Exercise 199 Speed Reading At Over 2000 WPM

The parafovea is an area that surrounds the fovea and can take in much more information with your peripheral vision. The parafovea is connected to other areas of your brain that govern instinct and reflex. The light that hits the parafovea is subliminal information (beyond the conscious threshold). When tachistoscopic blips are flashed at 1 100th of a second throughout a movie, they are subliminal and not consciously noticeable until you are told that they are there. Then your conscious awareness can easily see the quick flashes.

Exercise 82 Developing A Photographic Memory

Without memory, there is no learning but to have only a good memory of data without utilizing the information is hardly worthwhile. Daniel McCartney was born in Pennsylvania in 1817. His powers of memory were noticed at 5 or 6 years of age and they became fully acute at the age of 16. From that age on, he forgot nothing for the rest of his life He learned nothing by reading, but only by hearing, for his eyesight was poor. He could give the cube root of numbers up to the millions almost instantly, and solve any other calculating problem given to him as well. He could give you the day of the week on any calendar date of the past. He knew 200 hymns and could sing 150 tunes. He remembered what he ate during each meal for over 50 years. When asked how he did it, he replied, I just know it. Aside from a few demonstrations, McCartney never made much use of his memory for profit, and remained poor and obscure for most of his life. Although these two individuals seemed to have had certain...

Exercise 47 Eye Contact For Inner Communication

By consciously learning to screen out and adjust to this subliminal 'mental noise,' you gain more self-control in such situations. Because of this energy, it is said that ninja assassins used to look at their target victims with their peripheral vision so as not to give their position away. Electromagnetic energy radiates from your body, but a focalized form of ELF energy is guided by your eye beam (see Exercise -- Psionic and Psychotronic Generators ). Psychokinetic demonstrations are greatly assisted by a concentrated stare from the eyes (see Exercise -- Psychokinesis ). Benedetto Supino of Italy was reported to have the unusual ability of staring at paper, plastic or wooden objects, and causing such material to burst into flames Unusual reports are sometimes heard of Chinese children with X-ray eyes, or others that can bend metal with a concentrated stare.

5 The Invention of the Telescope Always Keep Your Eyes Open

An extreme example of people keeping their eyes closed (literally and figuratively) was the simple experiment that led to the invention of the telescope and microscope. It took more than 300 years after eyeglasses were in common use before Hans Uppershey, in 1608, observed the joint magnifying action of two lenses, built a simple telescope and then took action to publish his findings Shortly afterwards Galileo applied the telescope to the study of the planets and quickly discovered that the facts of classical philosophy were wrong. When he invited the scholars of the day to look through his telescope and see for themselves they refused G5G5

Exercise 97 Improving Your Kinesthetic Instincts

Japanese Buddhist monks can throw consistent bull's eyes into a dart board by using their peripheral vision alone. A football quarterback going back to pass, instinctively uses his peripheral vision to avoid on rushers while focusing his attention on the intended recipient of his pass. For instinctive practice, read something on a blackboard in front of you while throwing paper wads or coins into a bucket at varying angles to the right or left of you. Archery in the days of Robin Hood was a right brain kinesthetic instinctiveness, not the left brain sighting-device approach of today.

Illumination Lighting

Although it seems clear that lighting can definitely impact learning, the extent of such influence is subject to interpretation. As with any research, there is sometimes inconsistency and lack of experiment control. According to a comprehensive overview of scientific literature on behavior, performance, mental well being, and physiology,17 there is room to question the direct correlation of the amount of impact of artificial light sources on humans. Still, you may want to do as much as possible to provide adequate lighting for your learning environment. This means reducing or limiting glare and shadows, and reducing eyestrain while allowing ease of vision.

4Worry about missing a critical not or other conjunctive structure

If you continue to see life as you have always seen life, you will continue to get from life what you have always gotten from life. Until you change your basic thought processes about life you will continue to experience life as you have always done. Patching the eyes provides your brain with a new perspective on life. Even for a short while, patching can significantly change your perspective and your underlying paradigm (beliefs). Eye Patching tends to balance brain hemispheres. What most people will first experience with eye patching is an increase in visual acuity, a sense of lightness in the room, and an overall lessening of stress and strain on the eyes.

Exercise 201 Talking Fast

One form of dyslexia is greatly alleviated by simply wearing certain colored eyeglasses or putting colored glassine overlays on top of reading material. Can normal readers increase their speed with colored overlays Place a blue, green and red colored overlay separately on top of the paragraph below & time yourself with each reading then time the reading without an overlay. Which way provides you with a better speed and flow

Exercise 112 Seeing With Your Skin Body

As an exercise to begin distinguishing colors with your skin, purchase various colors of construction paper that all have the same texture grain. Test yourself with your eyes closed as to whether you can distinguish any differences. Now just as you shifted your conscious awareness into your peripheral vision in the Exercise -Improving Peripheral Vision Awareness, shift your conscious awareness to your fingertips for optimal discernment. About 10 of people tested have been found to have an already existing color-distinguishing ability. (Kinesthetic people learn this ability faster than visual and auditory people.)

Exercise 115 Seeing The Human Etheric Body

One way to see it is to get a willing partner to extend a bare arm. Have their fingers outspread a few inches away from some neutral or black background. Look towards the arm and the fingers, not directly at it, but towards it. You'll soon find there is a particular knack at focusing on the background through your fingers, but seeing them with your peripheral vision. Close to the skin will be seen a bluish or grayish haze that will extend from 1 8 of an inch to maybe 6 inches from the body. Relax and don't strain the process, and pretty soon you'll see there really is something there. Another technique is to extend one index finger vertically away from your eyes and look at it. Then put your other index finger in front of the first. Begin moving the back index finger away from you slowly while focusing on its movement. After reaching arm's length, begin slowly moving it back to the first finger. Repeat the process, but this time focus on the moving finger, while directing your...

Maybe you've never forgotten something as significant as turning off the ignition before getting out of your car, but certainly you've forgotten where you put your keys. That's a common example of absentmindedness, difficulty remembering a bit of information or an event because it didn't sufficiently register in the first place. Absentmindedness frequently results when you are trying to do two things at once and don't pay enough attention to either task. It can also occur when something or someone distracts you, pulling your focus away or fragmenting your concentration. You can't find your car keys (or your eyeglasses or your pen, and so on) because you didn't focus on where you put them when you came in the front door. Because you were thinking of something else (or, perhaps, nothing in particular), you didn't encode the information securely.

Tips and Pointers

Begin today's reading session with the Center of Creation imagery, followed by the eye exercises for review. Patch each eye for a few minutes before leaving for the library (patching while traveling to the library can be very beneficial, too, for those not driving). Begin this session again with the Center of Creation imagery, patching, and breathing exercises. Repeat the eye exercises before reading any book (according to the How to Read instructions). Go to the public library children's section (6th grade reading level area) again today. Take 30 minutes and speed-read as many books as each person can. Follow the basic reading principles. Read only novels that interests the reader. Trust your inner sense about each book. It is imperative that each person read according to the How to Read instructions ONLY. Resist the desire to return to your old way of reading. Even if the book seems very interesting and you want to really get into it, resist the desire to read it slowly. You must...

Begin With The Hand

When you first start using this trick, you will not see the print well. Don't let that concern you. Your peripheral vision is more than capable of seeing. You can easily see not only the print on the line above, but the print on the line below, at the same time. Keep practicing, your ability to see will rapidly improve until you will be seeing the line and lines clearly and easily. To make it easier for you to move steadily down the page as you move your eyes smoothly across the page, lay the heel of your hand on the page and curl your thumb slightly toward the print. Use the tip of the thumb as a pointer or marker as you move down the page. (See Illust. 8) Reverse the picture if you wish to use the left hand.

Responding to change

How do you put the principles outlined on page 211 into practice Or, more explicitly, how do you change the hearts and minds of all the employees in a large company, building on its past successes, involving and engaging people fully, providing a clear vision and creating a supportive culture, all undertaken at accelerated speed

Conscious Awareness

When you attend to the pressure of your foot against the floor or to the sound of a whistle in the distance, you are consciously aware and focused on it. You can also be mindful of the taste in your mouth, an odor in the air or even an inner thought process. If you focus your attention to a spot on the wall, you can even direct your conscious awareness to various points around that spot without shifting the focal point of your gaze (see Exercise -- Improving Your Peripheral Vision Awareness ). When listening to an orchestra, you can attend to the entire musical piece or you can 'flash' your conscious awareness to pick out and separate each musical instrument for individual attention (see Exercise -- A Multiple Hearing Acuity ). Like your body's muscles, your mind must be exercised and used more if it is expected to grow. Improving your mindfulness allows you to savor each stage of your development far better than you normally would in a non-mindful state. As an exercise in expanding...

How Vitamin E Works

These broad antiaging effects of vitamin E have led to propositions that it can fight cancer, slow down the formation of cataracts in the eyes, and relieve arthritic symptoms. Some of these claims go way beyond the available evidence, and it remains to be seen if the actions of vitamin E are really that widespread.

Concentration involves contraction of the field of mental vision, but meditation involves its expansion. In concentration you gain clear vision in meditation you try to keep that clear vision but extend it over a larger field and into depths and heights of thought which you have not been able to reach clearly before.

Reading Conditions

When you are preparing to read, take your reading conditions into consideration first. The greatest cause of tension in readers is the condition under which they are reading. Poor light, glare or poor posture, all create tension while reading. When you read for just a few minutes, and feel tired or sleepy, it is usually a result of eye strain and tension caused by poor reading conditions. Eliminating tension by eliminating poor reading conditions must be your top priority.

Trial experiment

She seemed very nervous, as if she were worried about something. I tried my best to reassure her, and asked to see the 'case history' that she had been given to diagnose. At the top of the page I read, 'Internal cataract of the right eye.' Further down I noted that the patient was a ten year old girl.
